Louisiana Early Steps

In addition to our clinic-based services in Franklinton, LA, Play & Say provides speech-language therapy and occupational therapy services throughout multiples parishes in Louisiana via the Louisiana Early Steps Program.

Early Steps is a state program mandated under federal law.  The role of Early Steps is to identify children (ages 0 until the 3rd birthday) exhibiting developmental delays and provide appropriate interventions.  The goal is to minimize the long-term effects that developmental delays may have on a child’s educational success and ultimately their entire life.

Early Steps is a government funded program and a family’s financial status does not affect their qualification for services; however, some families that qualify for services and accept services may be required to participate in cost share, which is similar to a copay.  A child qualifies or does not qualify for the program based on the degree of delay the child exhibits and the number of developmental areas affected.

Services are provided in the home, daycare, and community settings.  Parental/caregiver and family involvement is a major focus of treatment, and therapists aim to empower parents and caregivers to use techniques that improve development throughout the child’s daily life and daily routines.

If your child is less than 3 years old and you are concerned about his/her development, Early Steps may be a great option for you!
